The equil. const. between I and II in THF was 0. 104065-52-3 is also in the experiment.54 at 20°. II initiates the polymn. of styrene derivs. to form oligomers. The resulting oligomers have a polymerizable vinyl group at the chain end and can be regarded as a macromonomer. Synthesis of polystyrene, having a primary amino group at the chain end, was carried out through the reaction of polystyrene macromonomer with N-methylethylenediamine. More than 97% of the polystyrene was aminated within 6 h. .

These oligomers, formed in the early stages of the reaction, are considered to carry out the chain termination (or metalation) reaction. Results of mechanistic studies of the chain termination (or metalation) reaction in isoprene oligomerization in the presence of various types of allylamine homologues, as low-mol. wt. model compds. for the oligomers are presented. The presence of a cis-Me group with respect to the amino methylene group is essential for the low-mol. wt. model compds. to exhibit large reactivity in the chain transfer reaction. There are some commonly used reagents like 4111-54-0 in this article. Oligomers with amino end groups neither have to possess a cis-Me group nor an allylamine structure to be active. The driving force for the metalation reaction of oligomers with amino end groups is different in nature from that of the low-mol. wt. allylamine homologs. A possible mechanism for the metalation reaction of these oligomers is discussed in terms of a hydrophobic interaction with the growing chain. .
