(column: silicone OV-1, 135.degree.; flame ionization detector). Down to 15 ppm Et [120-47-8], Pr [94-13-3], iso-Pr [4191-73-5], Bu [94-26-8] and iso-Bu [4247-02-3] p-hydroxybenzoates were detd. as trifluoroacetates with 61.5-94.9% recovery. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) The concns. of six kinds of p-hydroxybenzoic acid esters (PHBA-Es), namely, PHBA-Me ester, PHBA-Et ester, PHBA-Pr ester, PHBA-iso-Pr ester, PHBA-Bu ester and PHBA-iso-Bu ester, were detd. in various foods by high performance liq. chromatog. PHBA-Es were extd. from samples using a mixt. of acetonitrile-isopropanol-ethanol (2:1:1). The crude ext. was stored in a freezer set up at -20° for 1 h, and sepd. into an org. layer and the residue. The org. layer was concd. to 1-2 mL, then the concd. soln. was dild. ten times with water. The soln. was cleaned up on a Sep-Pak Vac C18 cartridge. The cartridge was washed with water and a mixt. of methanol-water (1:9). The PHBA-Es were eluted from the cartridge with the methanol-water (8:2) mixt. The six of PHBA-Es were sepd. on a Cosmosil 5C18-ARII column with a mobile phase of methanol-5 mmol/L citrate buffer (6:4), and detected at 254 nm. Recoveries of the PHBA-Es from various kinds of foods were 90.8-106%. The detection limits of the PHBA-Es were 10 mg/g in the samples. The proposed method was useful on anal. of PHBA-Es in foods contg. oils and fats.
