The photochemical sulfenylation of halides with organic disulfides: Fujisawa, Tamotsu; Ohta, Hiromichi (Sagami Chem. Res. Cent., Sagamihara, Japan). Bull. Chem. Soc. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 25 (Noncondensed Aromatic Compounds) The reaction of org. disulfides with aryl radicals photochem. generated from aryl halides was investigated. Diaryl sulfides were obtained from diaryl disulfides when the radiation was provided by a low-pressure Hg lamp, while dialkyl disulfides afforded alkyl aryl sulfides whether the radiation source was a low- or a high-pressure Hg lamp. E.g., irradn. of a mixt. of PhI, (p-MeC6H4S)2, and 1M aq. Na2S2O3 soln. with low pressure Hg lamp (50 W) gave p-MeC6H4SPh in 85% yield (based on the disulfide). 4253-89-8 and 882-33-7 are just another two chemicals used in this study. Similarly reaction of Me2S2 and PhI gave MeSPh. .
