Analysis of organic N-chloramines in a municipal drinking water supply
Analysis of organic N-chloramines in a municipal drinking water supply. Scully, Frank E., Jr.; Burns, Karen; Speed, Mark A.; Arber, Richard P. (Dep. Chem. Sci., Old Dominiom Univ., Norfolk 23508, USA). Proc. - AWWA Water Qual. Technol. Conf., 11th, 197-205 (English) 1984. CODEN: PWQCD2. ISSN: 0164-0755. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 80 A method for the derivatization of org. N-chloramines in dil. soln. was developed with the intent of identifying the C backbone of org. N-chloramines that may be formed on chlorination of natural water and wastewater. The method involves reaction of a fluorescent arom. sulfinic acid (5-dimethylaminonaphthalene-1-sulfinic acid [4272-77-9]) with org. N-chloramines present in dil. aq. soln. Stable sulfonamides such as dansyl amide from NH2Cl and dansyl amines from org. N-chloramines are formed. The fluorescent derivs. are then analyzed by liq. chromatog. The derivatization method coupled with high-performance liq. chromatog. is capable of detecting org. N-chloramines at concns. as low as 10-7M. The derivatization is generally complete in £8 h and the quantity of fluorescent derivs. formed is proportional to the concn. of the chloramine in soln. Applications of the method demonstrated the formation of org. N-chloramines in a drinking water supply for Thornton, Colorado, and in wastewater from a treatment plant serving Norfolk, Virginia.
Oligomeric immunoglobulin constant domain mutant with enhanced complement-mediated cytolytic activity
Oligomeric immunoglobulin constant domain mutant with enhanced complement-mediated cytolytic activity. Shopes, Robert; Oi, Vernon T.; Stryer, Lubert (Leland Stanford Junior University, USA). PCT Int. Appl. WO 9119515 A1 26 Dec 1991, 17 pp. DESIGNATED STATES: W: CA, JP; RW: AT, BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, FR, GB, GR, IT, LU, NL, SE. (World Intellectual Property Organization). CODEN: PIXXD2. CLASS: ICM: A61K039-395. ICS: C07K013-00; C12N015-13. APPLICATION: WO 91-US4395 21 Jun 1991. PRIORITY: US 90-541527 21 Jun 1990. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 15 (Immunochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 3 Oligomeric Igs joined at the const. region at a specific site provide for enhanced cytolysis in conjunction with complement. The Igs are mutagenized by providing a Cys in the 3rd const. domain of the heavy chain to produce a dimeric product. A parental antibody HuG1 (antidansyl human g1,k with mouse variable domains) and a mutant HuG1 with Cys substituted for Ser at residue 444 (C444 HuG1) were prepd. by cloning techniques and expression in the murine myeloma SP2/0 cell line. C444 HuG1 formed dog-bone-shaped dimers having an intermol. SS linkage. 4272-77-9 and 52-90-4 are just another two chemicals used in this study. The dimer was more effective than monomer HuG1 and monomer C444 HuG1 in the complement-mediated induction of lysis of target cells (sheep erythrocytes sensitized with dansylated bovine serum albumin). .
