Hygienic characteristics of the working conditions during production and use of BMEA anticorrosive paper
Hygienic characteristics of the working conditions during production and use of BMEA anticorrosive paper. Korolenko, T. K. (Inst. Gig. Tr. Profzabol., Kiev, USSR). Gig. Tr. Prof. Zabol., (4), 29-33 (Russian) 1984. CODEN: GTPZAB. ISSN: 0016-9919. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Section cross-reference(s): 55, 59 Monoethanolamine benzoate (BMEA) [4337-66-0], used in the manuf. of anticorrosive paper for different steels, was not a very toxic compds. and belonged to class IV of less toxic materials. Its LD50s in mice and rats was 2680 and 9274 mg/kg, resp. Its clin. toxicity symptom was only reflected in an injury to the central nervous system. Prolong administration (4 mo) of BMEA showed no marked cumulative effect. However, its disruptive influence on the peripheral blood, kidney, and on many enzymes (transaminases, alk. phosphatase, and lactate dehydrogenase) reflects its chronic toxic effect. The recommended safe exposure ref. level of BMEA in the working zone is 3 mg/m3. In a related study, contents of BMEA, monoethanolamine [141-43-5] and benzoic acid [65-85-0] in the working zone and in washes from BMEA anticorrosive paper industry were examd.
