Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by hexamethyl-disilane. This reaction will need reagent AlCl₃, AcCl and solvent CH₂Cl₂. The reaction time is 12 hours with reaction temperature of 40 °C. The yield is about 76%.

Uses of Disilane,1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2-tetramethyl-: it can be used to produce Octamethyl-1,4-dithia-2,3,5,6-tetrasilacyclohexan. This reaction will need reagent H₂S and Et₃N.
