DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 42 (Coatings, Inks, and Related Products) Kinetics and catalysis of the esterification of monoisobutyl phthalate [30833-53-5] with iso-BuOH [78-83-1] are studied in melt at 423-453 K to elucidate the modification of a pentaphthalic resin with iso-BuOH is the manuf. of alkyd varnishes. The order of reaction in the absence of catalysts was 2.5, which points out its autocatalytic character. The most active catalysts, providing 1.5-2-fold increase in the rate, were H3PO4, urea phosphate [4401-74-5], and urea succinate [50877-92-4]. .
- Dependence of soiling and soil release of easy care cotton on factors controlling the finishing treatment
- Dependence of soiling and soil release of easy care cotton on factors controlling the finishing treatment. Ibrahim, N. A.; Hebeish, A. (Text. Res. Div., Natl. Res. Cent., Cairo, Egypt). Angew. Makromol. Chem., 130, 111-24 (English) 1985. CODEN: ANMCBO. ISSN: 0003-3146. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 40 (Textiles) The conventional pad-dry-cure method was used for crosslinking cotton with N-methylol finishing agents under different conditions. The effects were studied of the nature and concn. of finishing agent and softener, type and concn. of catalyst, and curing temp. on the soiling and soil release characteristics of crosslinked cotton. The effect of finishing agent on aq. soiling followed the order: carbamate reactant > dimethylolethyleneurea [136-84-5] > dimethyloldihydroxyethyleneurea [1854-26-8] > untreated fabric > modified triazinone 3 modified ethyleneurea. However, these finishing agents enhanced the susceptibility of the fabric to oily soiling, with the nature of the finishing agent governing the magnitude of this enhancement. Aq. and oily soil release depended also upon the nature of the finishing agent; soiling increased and soil release decreased by increasing finishing agent concn. The type of catalyst significantly influenced aq. and oily soil release without significantly affecting the degree of soiling. For aq. soil release, the following order was found: Al2(SO4)3.18H2O > MgCl2.6H2O > urea nitrate [17687-37-5] > ZnCl2.6H2O > Zn(NO3)2.6H2O > urea phosphate [4401-74-5] > urea oxalate [16607-82-2] > NH4.H2PO4 3 NH4Cl. The reverse order held good for oily soil release. Both aq. and oily soil release were impaired by increasing catalyst concn. The nature and concn. of the softener had no striking effect on soiling while they did on soil release. Raising the curing temp. from 80 to 140° substantially reduced soil removal from urea salt catalyzed-crosslinked cotton samples without affecting the degree of soiling.
