DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 11 (Plant Biochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 63 Constituents from stem bark of Erythrina variegata were studied by a combination of silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS chromatog., and their structures were identified by spectral methods. Nine known compds. were isolated from the stem bark of E. variegata. Their structures were identified as: 5,4'-dihydroxy-8-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-2",2"-dimethylpyrano[5,6:6,7]isoflavo ne (I), stigmasterol, erythrinasinate B (II), 3-hydroxy-2',2'-dimethylpyrano[5,6:9,10]pterocarpan (III), 5,7-dihydroxy-8-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-dihydroflavanone (IV), 5,4'-dihydroxy-2",2"-dimethylpyrano[5,6:6,7]isoflavone, 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-6,8-di(3,3-dimethylallyl)isoflavone (V), 5,2',4'-trihydroxy-8-(3,3-dimethylally)-2",2"-dimethylpyrano[5,6:6,7]isofla vone, and 5,4'-dihydroxy-6-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-2",2"-dimethylpyrano[5,6:7,8]isoflavo ne (sic) (VI). I, II, III, V, and VI were isolated from this plant for the first time; IV was newly isolated from plants of Erythrina. .
