DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) Section cross-reference(s): 14 In studies with gynecol. patients receiving for 3 postoperative days infusion of glucose [50-99-7] , at 3 g/kg/day, the same amt. of glucose + leucine [61-90-5] (90 mg/kg/day), or glucose + Na ketoisocaproate (I) [4502-00-5] (100 mg/kg/day), no differences were obsd. between groups in total urinary N and creatinine [60-27-5] excretion, whereas 3-methylhistidine [368-16-1] excretion in the 3rd group (glucose +I) was reduced. The data obtained are not in agreement with those by D. G. Sapir et al. (1983) which showed that the N balance was less neg. in postoperative patients receiving ketoisocaproate than in those receiving glucose, whereas leucine had no significant effect. Reasons for these discrepancies are discussed.
