- DNA strand breakage in vitro by autoxidized unsaturated fatty acids. Morita, Junji; Ueda, Kazumitsu; Nakai, Kuniko; Baba, Yoshiko; Komano, Tohru (Dep. Food Sci., Doshisha Women's Coll. Lib. Arts, Kyoto 602, Japan). Agric. Biol. Chem., 47(12), 2977-9 (English) 1983. CODEN: ABCHA6. ISSN: 0002-1369. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Autoxidn. of fatty acids [linoleic [60-33-3] and linolenic acid [463-40-1] (1M)] was essential for induction of phage qX174 supercoiled duplex DNA strand breakage activity. The DNA strand breakage was stimulated by transient metal ions, esp. Cu2+, and inhibited by EDTA [60-00-4]. Some scavengers for active O also inhibited the DNA strand breakage. It increased with the time of oxidn., but did not correlate with peroxide or 2-thiobarbiturate values.
- Chronic exposure to trichloroethylene: lipid and acyl group composition in gerbil cerebral cortex and hippocampus
- Chronic exposure to trichloroethylene: lipid and acyl group composition in gerbil cerebral cortex and hippocampus. Kyrklund, Titus; Alling, Christer; Haglid, Kenneth; Kjellstand, Per (Inst. Neurobiol., Univ. Goteborg, Goeteborg S400 33, Swed.). Neurotoxicology, 4(4), 35-42 (English) 1983. CODEN: NRTXDN. ISSN: 0161-813X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Inhalation exposure of gerbils to trichloroethylene [79-01-6] (50 and 150 ppm) for 12 mo caused only small changes in the lipid compn. of their cerebral cortex and hippocampus. Total protein content and lipid class distribution were almost unaffected. The cholesterol [57-88-5]/phospholipid ratio decreased in the cortex of animals exposed to trichloroethylene. Among the long-chain polyunsatd. fatty acids, changed ratios were found between long-chain derivs. of the linoleic acid [60-33-3] and the linolenic acid [463-40-1] series and a decrease was found in 2 minor fatty acids, (n-3) [10417-94-4] and (n-3) [2234-74-4]. Such changes may occur as a result of peroxidn. of polyunsatd. fatty acids.
