Liu Yin Wan was powd., 0.6 g powder was extd. with CHCl3, the ext. was evapd., and redissolved and dild. with EtOH to 10 mL. After filtration, the filtrate (0.5 mL) was mixed with 7% NaOH (2 mL) and EtOH to a final vol. of 10 mL, which was analyzed at 360 nm for the detn. of bufadienolides. The absorbance was linearly correlated with resibufogenin [465-39-4] concn. at 0-12 mg/mL. The av. recovery of bufadienolides was 99.90% and reproducibility with a relative std. deviation of 2.03% was obsd. The method is simple, rapid and sensitive and can be used in routine anal.

A 10-mL soln. was chromatographed on a silica gel G-CM-cellulose plate by using acetone-CHCl3-cyclohexane (1.5:3.6:6) as eluent, and the plate was subjected to anal. by densitometry. Of 7 compd. prepns. tested, contents of resibufogenin, bufalin and cinobufagin ranged 0.23-1.78, 0.11-0.81 and 0.07-0.59%, resp.
