DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 62 (Essential Oils and Cosmetics) An essential oil from tubers of Mizugayatsuri (C. serotinus Rottb.) was obtained in 0.02% yield, with d430 1.0367, nD30 1.4949, and [.alpha.] = D24 .+-. 0.degree. (c = 0.9, CHCl3). The components were sepd. by means of column and gas chromatog. with .beta.-elemene [33880-83-0], caryophyllene [87-44-5], .alpha.-humulene [6753-98-6], .beta.-selinene [17066-67-0], Me trans,trans-farnesate [3675-00-1], trans,trans-farnesyl acetate [4128-17-0], and .alpha.-cyperone [473-08-5], as the major components and .alpha.-copaene [3856-25-5], .beta.-santalene [511-59-1], .beta.-guaiene [88-84-6], .delta.-cadinene [483-76-1], calamenene [483-77-2], and cyperotundone [3466-15-7] as minor ones. The compds. were identified by IR, MS and NMR spectra. For comparison, the essential oil of C. rotundus L. was analyzed, but Me farnesate or farnesyl acetate could not be found.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Ether, methanol and aq. exts. of C. min. (Compositae) herbs were found to have antiallergy activity in passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) test. Three flavonoids, two sesquiterpene lactones and an amide were isolated from this plant material as inhibitors to induced histamine release from mast cells. The sesquiterpenes were identified as isobutyroylplenolin and senecioylplenolin by spectral investigations. The flavonoids and sesquiterpenes exhibited antiallergy activity in PCA test with oral administration. .
