DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 28 (Heterocyclic Compounds (More Than One Hetero Atom)) 1,4-Benzodioxins I (R = CO2Et, R1 = R2 = H; R = R2 = H, R1 = H, NO2, Cl, Br, CO2H, CO2Me; R = H, R1 = R2 = Cl) were prepd. (65-98%) from the corresponding 1,4-benzodioxans by bromination with N-bromosuccinimide using Bz2O2 as initiator, to give 2,3-dibromo-1,4-benzodioxans, followed by treatment with NaI. I (R = CO2Et, R1 = R2 = H) on sequential hydrolysis, chlorination, and treatment with piperidine gave I (R = piperidinocarbonyl, R1 = R2 = H) which on treatment with LiAlH4 gave 95% I (R = piperidinomethyl, R1 = R2 = H). ..
