Results from using conventionally known immunoactive agents, including BCG, Corynebacterium parvum, cyclophosphamide [50-18-0], berbamine [478-61-5], and dextran [9004-54-0] showed that the serum I balance, but not the phagocytic activity, pos. reflected the immunoactive agent-induced macrophage activation. In addn., the serum I balance also reflected the anti-infection activity of the immunoactive agents, whereas no such relation was obsd. between phagocytosis and the anti-infection activity. Thus, the serum I balance is a sensitive index for immunoactive agent-induced macrophage activation, and thus is useful in screening of immunoactive drugs.
