Thus, a polished stainless steel sheet was cleaned, etched, activated, and Cu coated in a soln. contg. CuSO4.cntdot.5H2O 10, EDTA 30, 37% HCHO 20, I (mol. wt. 600) 10, and II 0.02 g/l. Coating was done at pH 13, 70.degree., and 4.6 .mu./h until the Cu layer was 36.4 .mu. thick. The Cu coating had 5.1% elongation and tensile strength of 42.8 kg/mm2, while that deposited from a similar soln. free of I and II exhibited 2.8% elongation and 31.4 kg/mm2 tensile strength. .

Effects of o-phenanthroline, 2,2'-dipyridyl and neocuproine on the activities of bleomycin to inhibit DNA synthesis and growth of cultured cells.Some chemicals with cas registry numbers like 484-11-7 and 366-18-7 are also used. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Effects of o-phenanthroline [66-71-7], 2,2'-dipyridyl [366-18-7] and neocuproine [484-11-7], which form stable complexes preferentially with Fe(II), Fe(II) and specifically with Cu(I), resp., on the inhibitory activity of bleomycin A2 [11116-31-7] against DNA synthesis by rat ascites hepatoma AH66 cells were examd. The inhibitory activity of metal-free bleomycin was suppressed in the presence of o-phenanthroline or 2,2'-dipyridyl, but not by neocuproine, though these chelating agents also showed the inhibitory activity against the DNA synthesis of the cells by themselves alone. The activity of bleomycin A2-Cu(II) [71794-63-3] was also suppressed by o-phenanthroline, but bleomycin A2-Fe(II) [71801-37-1] and bleomycin A2-Fe(III) [72028-04-7] exhibited some activities in the presence of o-phenanthroline. The growth inhibitory activity of bleomycin against HeLa cells was also suppressed by o-phenanthroline. .
