(57.76 g) of sodium bis(2-methoxyethoxy)aluminum hydride (200 mmol) and 100 mL toluene to give a toluene soln. which was added dropwise at 0° to a mixt. of 23.94 g Me 3-furancarboxylate and 50 mL toluene which was precooled at -5°. To the resulting mixt. was added dropwise at ￡10° 200 mL 15% aq. H2SO4, followed by sepg. the org. layer and extg. the water layer with 30 mL toluene.
