DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Diallyl tetrabromophthalate (I) [49693-09-6] was used in the prepn. of fire-resistant polyester resins or diallyl phthalate polymer [25053-15-0]. Thus, a crosslinked resin prepd. from I 1, styrene 1, and ethylene glycol-isophthalic acid-maleic anhydride copolymer [52397-42-9] 2 parts had limiting O index 27.0% in burning tests.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Unsatd. polyesters were simultaneously cured and fireproofed with diallyl tetrabromophthalate (Xyrex RFR)(I) [49693-09-6]. Comparative tests were made with I-cured isophthalic acid copolymer, tetrabromophthalic anhydride copolymer, and a brominated polyester. The I-cured polyester had higher O index, flexural modulus, and dielec. strength, and lower shrinkage of molded parts than the 2 conventional resins. The arc resistance of all 3 resins was comparable. The appearance of the I-contg. resin was superior to that of the other 2 resins.
