The tar was then converted into glucose (II) [50-99-7] by hydrolysis with dil. H2SO4. The yields of I were ~2% from wood and ~22% for filter paper. The amt. of II was 1.6-2.6 times higher than that of I, indicating the presence of anhydro-sugars other than I in the tar.Except for chemicals metioned above, 50-99-7 and 498-07-7 are also used. .
