DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 17 (Food and Feed Chemistry) Distribution of Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, and polycyclic arom. hydrocarbons (PAH) in leafy vegetables grown in Sweden during 1981-82 was studied. Vegetables grown on Graen Island were heavily contaminated with Pb. Vegetables grown in the Landskrona urban area showed elevated levels of Pb and PAH. Occasional consumption of these vegetables posed no health risk and would not exceed the weekly Pb intake limit of 3 mg/adult set by WHO/FAO, but consumption of large amts. for long periods was inadvisable. Cd, Cu, and Zn were at the same levels as reported earlier for these products with the exception of some samples of carrots and red beets where Cd was higher than earlier reported. PAH in many samples was high. Benzo[a]pyrene [50-32-8] in unwashed lettuce and washed kale was 3.3 and 2.In this experiment, several chemicals are used like 7439-92-1 and 205-99-2 4 mg/kg, resp. Washing removed a significant part of the Pb from vegetables. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 13 (Mammalian Biochemistry) UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (I) of mol. 56-55-3 and 9030-08-4 which are cas registry numbers are also used here. wts. 51,000 (51K) and 54,000 (54K) of the liver of C57/BL/6N (B6) and DBA/2N (D2) mice were differentially induced by several drugs. Phenobarbital and 3-methylcholanthrene induced I to the greatest extent in B6 mice as compared to D2 mice, whereas TCDD induced I in both strains equally. The 54K I was preferentially induced by these 3 drugs. Benzo[a]pyrene only induced I in B6 mice and also was preferential for the 54K I. Benzanthracene also only induced I in B6 mice, but was preferential to the 51K form. trans-Stilbene oxide did not induce I in either strain. Protease digestion of the 2 forms produced similar peptide maps, trypsin and endoglycosidase D did not affect either form, and endoglycosidase H altered only the 51K form. Immunopptn. of protein translated in vitro by using total mRNA from phenobarbital-treated B6 mice generated bands of ~50,000 daltons (50K) and 54K. After inclusion of dog pancreatic microsomes during translation, the 50K band increased to 51K, whereas the 54K band was unchanged. Thus, the 51K I is posttranslationally modified by glycosylation. Two different mRNA species must code for the 2 I's. It is likely that the 51K I is inserted in the luminal side of the endoplasmic reticulum, since that is the only site in the cell known to glycosylate proteins; the 54K I appears to be unglycosylated and probably is located at a different membrane site. .
