DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Whole blood and plasma concns. of the corresponding active neuroleptic drugs were measured in schizophrenic persons who had received depot prepns. of (Z)-clopenthixol decanoate [64053-00-5] or fluphenazine decanoate [5002-47-1] by i.m. injection. Whole blood and plasma concns. were very similar, though there was a slight tendency for blood concns. to be higher than plasma concns. Max. concns. appeared 1 wk after administration of (Z)-clopenthixol decanoate, whereas the highest concns. after fluphenazine decanoate were seen at the end of 3 wk. Some between-individual variation and a limited within-individual variation were seen.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) Psychiatric inpatients received haloperidol [52-86-8], chlorpromazine [50-53-3], fluphenazine decanoate [5002-47-1], or no drug therapy. The groups did not differ statistically with respect to the incidence of thrombocytopenia, mean platelet levels, age, chlorpromazine equiv. dosages, or duration of drug therapy. The 2 phenothiazine-treated groups had significantly higher nos. of patients with low-normal platelet levels when compared to both the haloperidol and control groups. Also, a nonsignificant trend was noted for increased incidence of thrombocytopenia among the phenothiazine groups compared with the haloperidol and control groups. Upon retrospective anal. of preneuroleptic treatment platelet levels, significant decreases in platelet values were obsd. with the phenothiazine-treated patients, but not with haloperidol. Apparently, neuroleptic drug-induced thrombocytopenia is rare but may be more common with phenothiazine antipsychotics.
