The mechanism of the chain propagation proceeded via preliminary chain transfer to the monomer. This transfer accelerated the polymn. 3058-33-1 and 437-17-2 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. rate, decreased the mol. wt. of the polymers, narrowed the mol. wt. distribution, and enhanced the stability of the polymn. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) In the ring-opening polymn. of lactones, complexation by the initiators (Ph)4Sn, stannous octoate, SnCl4, AlBr3, and (iso-Bu)3Al (I) [100-99-2] with L(-)- and D,L-lactide [95-96-5] and glycolide [502-97-6] was studied by IR spectroscopy. Mixing equimolar C6H6 or PhMe solns. of initiator and monomer gave only complexes of AlBr3 or I with D,L-lactide or glycolide. Complex formation was studied by varying initiator and monomer concns. Complexes formed by coordination of carbonyl O with Al. Polymers were formed when I was used as initiator. With AlBr3, polymn. occurred only when traces of water were added. With AlBr3, the initiating species is HBr, while polymn. by I probably proceeds via coordinated insertion of the lactone into the Al-C bond. .
