- Effect of 1-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-1H-indazole-3-carboxylic acid (DICA) on the sex organs of the male laboratory mouse. Singh, S. K.; Dominic, C. J. (Dep. Zool., Banaras Hindu Univ., Varanasi 221 005, India). Exp. Clin. Endocrinol., 83(3), 291-6 (English) 1984. CODEN: EXCEDS. ISSN: 0232-7384. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 2 (Mammalian Hormones) Section cross-reference(s): 1 Oral administration (50 mg/kg/day, for 28 days) of 1-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-1H-indazole-3-carboxylic acid (DICA) [50264-69-2] to mice decreased testicular wt. and suppressed spermatogenesis. The seminiferous tubules were devoid of spermatozoa and contained only Sertoli cells, spermatogonia, spermatocytes, and several multinucleated giant cells. The Leydig cells, however, remained unaffected in treated animals. DICA also induced decreases in the levels of testicular RNA and protein; DNA, however, remained unaltered. The epididymis presented a normal histol. except that the lumen contained sperm debris in DICA-treated mice; cauda epididymal spermatozoa were immotile and often fragmented. DICA did not change the level of fructose in the seminal vesicle. DICA-induced alterations were reversible and within 56 days of drug withdrawal the reproductive organs returned to their normal state.
