Thus, a mixt. of aniline, Me carbazate, tri-Me orthoformate, and p-toluenesulfonic acid was heated in MeOH for 2 h at 50-60°; NaOMe was added and the mixt. was heated for another 2 h to give 99% 4-phenyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one. .
