Hepatic damage and organochlorine residues concentrations in body tissues
Hepatic damage and organochlorine residues concentrations in body tissues. Oloffs, P. C.; Hardwick, D. F. (Dep. Biol. Sci., Simon Fraser Univ., Burnaby, B. C., Can.). Comm. Eur. Communities, [Rep.] EUR, Volume Date 1974, EUR 5360, Proc. Int. Symp. Recent Adv. Assess. Health Eff. Environ. Pollut., Vol. 2, 961-5 (English) 1975. CODEN: CECED9. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Liver specimens, taken from patients with hepatic cirrhosis, contained significantly higher concns. of DDT (I) [50-29-3], but significantly lower concns. of heptachlor epoxide [1024-57-3], than specimens from controls. Concns. of dieldrin [60-57-1] were not significantly different. No significant differences were found between cirrhotics and controls in the concns. of any residues in brain and adipose tissues. None of the specimens contained detectable amts. of aldrin [309-00-2], heptachlor [76-44-8], lindane [58-89-9], or the alpha [5103-71-9] or gamma-chlordane [5566-34-7]. There was a highly significant assocn. between lipid contents and residue concns. in livers. Cirrhotic livers with severe fatty infiltration, detd. by histopathol. examn., and confirmed analytically, contained significantly higher amts. of I and heptachlor epoxide than did those with minimal or no fatty changes.
Organochlorine pesticide residues in fish from the Shatt al-Arab River, Iraq
Organochlorine pesticide residues in fish from the Shatt al-Arab River, Iraq. DouAbul, Ali A. Z.; Al-Omar, Muthanna; Al-Obaidy, Selma; Al-Ogaily, Nehla (Mar. Sci. 72-55-9 and 5103-74-2 are also occured in this study. Cent., Univ. Basrah, Basrah, Iraq). Bull. Environ. Contam. Toxicol., 38(4), 674-80 (English) 1987. CODEN: BECTA6. ISSN: 0007-4861. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Section cross-reference(s): 17 In the meat of nonmigratory cyprinid fish Barbus xanthopterus from the Schatt al -Arat River collected during Apr. 1984 near Basra, Iraq, the mean concns. of aldrin (I) [309-00-2] plus dieldrin [60-57-1], heptachlor [76-44-8] plus heptachlor epoxide [1024-57-3], endrin [72-20-8], cis- [5103-71-9] plus trans-chlordane [5103-74-2], and DDE [72-55-9] plus TDE [72-54-8] plus DDT [50-29-3] (2, 3, 16, 0, and 13 ppb wet wt., resp.) were below those of the fish from Lake Hor al-Hammar (8, 6, 154, 58, and 57 ppb, resp.). Apparently, the pesticides of the river come from the intensely formed area of Euphrates and Tigris river basin. In the meat of a migratory fish Indian shad (Tenualosa ilisha) collected in the Shatt al-Arab River in spring 1984, the concns. of b-BHC [319-85-7], lindane [58-89-9], and the above 5 pesticides were 20, 9, 38, 25, 82, 39, and 95 ppb, resp. Corresponding values from samples collected in summer 1984 (16, 4, 26, 7, 41, 28, and 131 ppb, resp.) and in autumn 1984 (0, 3, 14, 20, 147, 25, and 51 ppb, resp.) indicate considerable seasonal variation of the pesticides. .
