DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) The effects of 2 methylated-b-cyclodextrins, heptakis(2,6-di-O-methyl)-b-cyclodextrin (DM-b-Cyd) [51166-71-3] and heptakis(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-b-cyclodextrin (TM-b-Cyd) [55216-11-0], on the dehydration rate of PGE2 [363-24-6] and the isomerization rate of PGA2 [13345-50-1] in aq. alk. soln. were investigated for evaluationg the ability of the compds. to stabilize prostaglandins; the results were compared with thoase of b-cyclodextrin (b-Cyd). Although b-Cyd accelerated both degradative reactions, both DM-b-Cyd and TM-b-Cyd significantly retarded the reaction rates. The stabilizing effect of DM-b-Cyd was greater than that of TM-b-CyD. Stability consts. and rate consts. of the complexes were kinetically detd. on the basis of 1:1 inclusion complex formation. DM-b-Cyd is useful in the stabilization of PGEs and PGAs in aq. soln.
