DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacology) The increase in the ST segment of the ECG and the release of myocardial creatine kinase in dogs with acute exptl. myocardial infarction [induced by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD)] were both markedly decreased by pretreatment of the animal with tetrandrine [518-34-3] (i.v., 5 mg/kg) 5 min before LAD ligation. Tetrandrine treatment only caused a slight decrease in the blood pressure and heart rate. Thus, tetrandrine appears to protect against exptl. myocardial infarction.
