- The effects of temperature and salinity on the aqueous solubility of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. Whitehouse, Brian G. (Dep. Oceanogr., Dalhousie Univ., Halifax, NS B3H 4J1, Can.). Mar. Chem., 14(4), 319-32 (English) 1984. CODEN: MRCHBD. ISSN: 0304-4203. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 25 The aq. solubilities of phenanthrene [85-01-8], anthracene [120-12-7], 2-methylanthracene [613-12-7], 2-ethylanthracene [52251-71-5], 1,2-benzanthracene (I) [56-55-3], and benzo[a]pyrene [50-32-8] were detd. at temps. 3.7-25.3° and salinities 0-36.7m. With the exception of I, the hydrocarbons were salted-out. Their solubilities were insensitive to small changes in salinity and very sensitive to small changes in temp. On the other hand, the soly. of I was sensitive to small changes in salinity. Potential environmental implications of the data are discussed.
