Heat stabilizers for poly(vinyl chloride) slurries during monomer removal
Heat stabilizers for poly(vinyl chloride) slurries during monomer removal. Ito, Iko; Emura, Tomoyuki; Shinkawa, Hirotoshi; Murata, Nobuyuki (Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.; Kyodo Chemical Co., Ltd., Japan). Japan. Kokai JP 52008055 21 Jan 1977 Showa, 6 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08J003-16. APPLICATION: JP 75-84074 8 Jul 1975. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Aq. slurries of PVC [9002-86-2] contg. residual vinyl chloride (I) [75-01-4] are heated in the presence of at least one of 2-phenylindole (II) [948-65-2], .beta.-aminocrotonates, and hindered phenol compds. and at least one of C2-24 acid salts of Group I and II metals and organotins at >70.degree. to remove I without reducing the discoloration resistance of the PVC. Thus, a PVC slurry prepd. by suspension polymn. of I contg. 12,000 ppm I was heated 60 min at 90.degree. under reduced pressure in the presence of 0.04 wt.% (based on PVC) dioctyltin bis(stearyl maleate) [14205-47-1] and 0.06% II to reduce the I content to <50 ppm. PVC 100, epoxidized soybean oil 2, Ca stearate 0.3, and Zn stearate 1 part were rolled 5 min at 165.degree. and pressed 15 min at 170.degree. and 30 kg/cm2 to give a colorless transparent sheet having heat stability at 180.degree. 52509-84-9 and 62480-01-7 are just another two chemicals used in this study. 55 min, compared with orange and 37 min, resp., for a similar sheet from a slurry treated without the stabilizers. .
