The ratio correlates well with the time required to disperse an org. pigment in a binder and thus provides a better evaluation of its processing characteristics than grindometry or oil no. detn. by the method of W. Carr. The V/S ratios are different for different pigment classes and can be used for comparison of members within a class only. Some typical V/S value ranges are: Phthalocyanine Blue [147-14-8] 2.0-6.0, Cromophtal Red BR [5280-78-4] 12.0-29.0, C.I. Pigment Red 6 [6410-13-5] 2.07-3.05. .

The dispersibility of red pigments C.I. Pigment Red 166 [12225-04-6] and C.I. Pigment Red 144 [5280-78-4] decreased with decreasing particle size due to formation of stable aggregates. Red pigments with poor dispersibility showed also lower zeta potential values than easily dispersible pigments. Contrary to the findings for red pigments, the dispersibility of yellow pigments C.I. Pigment Yellow 93 [5580-57-4] and C.I. Pigment Yellow 95 [5280-80-8] decreased with increasing particle size.
