Preferred conformations of pyrethroids
Preferred conformations of pyrethroids. Elliott, Michael; Janes, Norman F. (Rothamsted Exp. Stn., Harpenden/Hertfordshire, Engl.). ACS Symp. Ser., 42(Synth. Pyrethroids, Symp.), 29-36 (English) 1977. CODEN: ACSMC8. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Section cross-reference(s): 22 Preferred conformations for pyrethrin I (I) [121-21-1] and decamethrin (II) [52918-63-5] were calcd. from simple models based solely on non-bonded at. interactions. The conformations correspond closely with those found in the cryst. state for some bonds, but differ for others, particularly those near the extremities of the mol. Despite rapid rotation about single bonds in soln., the shape of the preferred conformation may be significant for insecticidal action, influencing the probability that the pyrethroid will adopt the appropriate shape as it approaches the target site. Some relevant biol. results are discussed.
Control of several early-season insects of flue-cured tobacco with acephate in the transplant water
Control of several early-season insects of flue-cured tobacco with acephate in the transplant water. Cheng, H. H.; Hanlon, J. J. (Res. Stn., Agric. Canada, Delhi, ON N4B 2W9, Can.). Tob. Int.In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 52645-53-1 and 58-89-9 , 188(19), 50-4 (English) 1986. CODEN: TBCIAE. ISSN: 0049-3945. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Greenhouse and field expts. were conducted in Ontario (Canada) from 1981-85 to evaluate the effectiveness of several registered insecticides, with particular ref. to acephate [30560-19-1], applied as transplant-water treatments for control of the darksided cutworm (Euxoa messoria), wireworms (Melanotus spp.), root maggots (Delia spp.), potato flea beetle (Epitrix cucumeris), tobacco thrips (Frankliniella fusca), and green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) on flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum). Cypermethrin [52315-07-8], deltamethrin [52918-63-5], permethrin [52645-53-1], and lindane [58-89-9] applied as transplant-water treatments gave good control of wireworms, but did not control aphids and darksided cutworm larvae in the greenhouse tests. Acephate transplant-water treatments, regardless of tests conducted in the greehouse or field, were effective for control of the above mentioned insect pests for 2-4 wk, depending upon the species and the rate of application. The transplant water treatments of acephate had no effect on yield or quality of flue-cured tobacco. However, the high rate of acephate appeared to cause phytotoxicity to the leaves, but no adverse effects on the plant growth were obsd. .
