Thus, Streptomyces rosa notoensis (FERM-P 2209) was aerobically cultured on 20 L medium (pH 7.0) contg. glycerol 20, soybean powder 20, and NaCl 3 g/L. I in the culture supernatant was extd. with BuOAc at pH 2, transferred to 1% NaHCO3 soln., extd. with EtOAc at pH 2, pptd. by addn. of petroleum ether, and purified by silica gel column chromatog., eluting with CHCl3-MeOH (). I was a yellow powder, had a m.p. of 170-3°, a sp. rotation of -278°, was sol. in MeOH, EtOH, Me2CO, EtOAc, and CHCl3, but insol. in H2O, C6H14, and petroleum ether. I was effective against Staphylococcus, Microsporum, Trichophyton, and Mycoplasma. LD50 of I against mice was 17.3 mg/kg i.p.
