The plating process was conducted with Sn as anode in a bath contg. Sn(II) methanesulfonate, Bi methanesulfonate, methanesulfonic acid, formaldehyde, additive SB-A, and additive SB-B at 16-30° and 2-7 A/dm2. The role of individual component in the bath and the effects of process parameters on the electroplating were described. The discoloration resistance of coatings was improved after neutralization with 5-10% Na3PO4 and passivation with 10 g/L K2Cr2O7 and 20 g/L Na2CO3. The Sn-Bi alloy plating features good weldability and non-toxicity and can be replacing Sb-Pb alloy plating. .
