DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) Drug combinations, consisting of 3 drugs selected from streptomycin [57-92-1], p-aminosalicylic acid [65-49-6], isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INH) [54-85-3], kanamycin [8063-07-8], ethionamide [536-33-4], cycloserine [68-41-7], ethambutol (EB) [74-55-5], rifampicin (I) [13292-46-1], and viomycin [32988-50-4], had a greater bactericidal activity than any of these single drugs when tested against 20 strains of Mycobacterium intracellulare in vitro. However, the activity againnt M. tuberculosis was very low. The combinations, kanamycin-INH-EB, streptomycin-INH-EB, and I-INH-EB, were effective against >65% of the M. intracellulare strains tested. Combinations contg. I were more effective than those without.
