The main components were b-selinene [17066-67-0] 58, limonene [138-86-3] 19, butyl-4,5-dihydrophthalide [62006-39-7] 6.9, caryophyllene [87-44-5] 3.3, butylphthalide [6066-49-5] 1.7, and 1-phenylpentane [538-68-1] 1.8%. Most of the butyl-4,5-dihydrophthalide was converted to butylphthalide during storage of the oil. The alkylphthalides of A. graveolens consist of only butylphthalide and butyl-4,5-dihydrophtrhalide. Both butylphthalide and butyl-4,5-dihydrophthalide have the same pharmacol. activity.

For systems in which the components differ only by a CH2 group, DH for equimolar mixts. is const. (~6 J mol-1). In such systems, the exothermal portion of DH decreases with increasing length of alkyl chain of both components. Systems contg. benzene represent a sep. group in which DH can be described with an appropriate equation.
