Thus, .beta.-allylaminoethanol [2424-00-2] prepd. from allylamine, triethylamine and ethylene bromohydrin [540-51-2] sprayed on tomato plants completely prevented Fusarium oxysporum infection. .
- Photohydrolysis of ethylene dibromide
- Photohydrolysis of ethylene dibromide. Castro, Charles E.; Belser, Nao O. (Dep. Nematol., Univ. California, Riverside, CA 92521, USA). J. Agric. Food Chem., 33(3), 536-8 (English) 1985. CODEN: JAFCAU. ISSN: 0021-8561. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Ethylene dibromide [106-93-4] in aq. soln. undergoes a rapid photohydrolysis upon irradn. with a 450-W medium-pressure mercury lamp. The photoreaction proceeds in 2 steps: (1) conversion of ethylene dibromide to bromoethanol [540-51-2] (t1/2 7.6 min) and (2) cyclization of bromoethanol to ethylene oxide [75-21-8] (t1/2 64 min). The rate of hydrolysis of ethylene oxide to ethylene glycol [107-21-1] is not enhanced by light (t1/2 ~20 days). The rates of reactions 1 and 2 are, resp. , 32 and 3.8 times faster than the redn. of ferrioxalate ion under identical conditions. For ethylene dibromide the photo process represents a rate enhancement of 105 over the nonphotolytic pathway.
