There are some commonly used reagents like 54239-37-1 in this article. Several I were as potent as clenbuterol. In expts. with chickens, 5-[1-hydroxy-2-(isopropylamino)ethyl]anthranilonitrile (I, R = H; R1 = NH2; R2 = CN; R3 = H; R4 = CHMe2) [54239-37-1] appeared to be more potent than clenbuterol with respect to the ability to redirect food energy from fat formation to muscle accretion. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 18 (Animal Nutrition) In long-term feeding expts. on lambs, both cimaterol (I) [54239-37-1] (a repartitioning agent) and fish meal enhanced skeletal muscle growth, but only I altered the pattern of adipose tissue accretion. I at 10 ppm feed consistently improved carcass yield (increased dressing percentage and loin eye area) and decreased carcass fat by ￡66%. I decreased plasma insulin [9004-10-8] concn. by 55% and increased that of thyroxine [51-48-9] by 25% and growth hormone [9002-72-6] by ~50%. Plasma nonesterified fatty acids were 60% higher in I-treated lambs than in controls. Fish meal had no significant effect on apparent fat accretion within the carcass or skeletal muscle. New data on the effect of I on histol. of muscle fibers and muscle DNA and RNA levels were obtained, and the mechanisms of its actions are discussed.
