The amt. of helenine extd. increased with increasing time of ultrasound treatment. Ultrasound treatment did not affect the structure of helenine components. Quant. sepn. of the mixt was achieved by column chromatog. using an Al2O3-H3BO3-AgNO3 (:3) adsorbent and a hexane-Et2O () eluate; the 1st 2 5-mL factions contained essential oils, the 3rd-8th fractions contained alantolactone m. 76-8.degree., the 9th-10th fractions had 2 lactones (m. 55-68.degree.) and the 11th-13th fractions contained isoalantolactone m. 110-4.degree.. The alantolactone/isoalantolactone ratio of helenine was 2:1. .
