DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 64 (Pharmaceutical Analysis) 8-Hydroxyquinoline (I) [148-24-3] and its antiinfective iodinated derivs. 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline (clioquinol) [130-26-7], 5,7-diiodo-8-hydroxyquinoline (iodoquinol) [83-73-8] and 8-hydroxy-7-iodo-quinolone-5-sulfonic acid [547-91-1] were detd. by reaction with 4-aminoantipyrine [83-07-8] in the presence of an alk oxidizing agent [K hexacyanoferrate(III)]. A red antipyrine dye with peak at 500 nm was produced in all cases. A reaction mechanism is presented. The method can be applied to the anal. of pharmaceutical prepns. and the results obtained compare favorably with those obtained with by std. methods. Recoveries were 99.8-100.3% for clioquinol.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 60 (Sewage and Wastes) Section cross-reference(s): 48 A conventional anion exchanger loaded with sulfonated chelating agents, i.e., 5-sulfosalicylic (SSA) [97-05-2], chromatropic (CTA) [148-25-4], and 7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic (IHQS) acid [547-91-1], was applied to the selective and quant. sepn. of Fe(III), Cu(iI), Cr(VI), and Pb(II) from aq. solns. The optimum conditions were detd. with respect to the pH, shaking time (in a mech. shaker), and the effect of anion concn. in the medium. The total absorption capacities of the loaded resins were; 1.28 mmol Fe and 1.07 mmol Cu/g of SSA-loaded resin, and 0.73 mmol Cu and 0.70 mmol Pb/g of IHQS-loaded resin.
