- Electrically conductive liquid crystalline substance and polymer. Heeger, Alan J.; Yoshida, Haruo; Naito, Kazumi; Kobayashi, Yukio (Showa Denko K. K. , Japan). Eur. Pat. Appl. EP 106175 A2 25 Apr 1984, 55 pp. DESIGNATED STATES: R: DE, FR, GB, IT, NL. (English). (European Patent Organization). CODEN: EPXXDW. CLASS: IC: C09K003-34; G02F001-137. APPLICATION: EP 83-109140 15 Sep 1983. PRIORITY: JP 82-169882 30 Sep 1982; JP 82-169883 30 Sep 1982. 548-39-0 which is the cas registry number is also used here. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) Section cross-reference(s): 76 Elec. conductive liq. cryst. substances and polymers contg. charge-transfer complexes are prepd. Thus, a mixt. of 100 g perinaphthenone [548-39-0] and 20.8 g NaBH4 in 1 L THF was heated at 50° for 8 h to give 90 g perinaphthenol (I) [91598-47-9]. A mixt. of 90 g I and 70 g p-hydroxybenzoic acid [99-96-7] in 0.5 L PhMe and 1 mL H2SO4 was refluxed for 5 h to give 80 g perinaphthenyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (II) [91598-48-0]. A soln. of 17 g 4-(2-acryloyloxyethoxy)benzoyl chloride [91598-49-1] in 80 mL CHCl3 was added dropwise to a mixt. of 18 g II and 6.7 g Et3N in 100 mL CHCl3. The mixt. was stirred at 0° for 0.5 h and allowed to stand overnight at room temp. to give 22 g 1-perinaphthenyl-4-[4-(2-acryloyloxyethoxy)benzoyloxy] benzoate (III) [91598-50-4]. A mixt. of 10% III in PhMe and 4% (based on III) AIBN was heated at 60° for 20 h to give a polymer [91601-09-1] with 41% yield. A mixt. of 2% above polymer and 10% iodine in Et acetate was stirred for 2 h to give an elec. conductive liq. cryst. polymer. .
- Phenalen-1-one: occurrence in a fuel oil and toxicity to microalgae
- Phenalen-1-one: occurrence in a fuel oil and toxicity to microalgae. Winters, Kenneth; Batterton, John C.; Van Baalen, Chase (Mar. Sci. Inst., Univ. Texas, Port Aransas, Tex. 95-48-7 and 697-82-5 are cas registry numbers. These chemicals are also mentioned in this article., USA). Environ. Sci. Technol., 11(3), 270-2 (English) 1977. CODEN: ESTHAG. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) Phenalen-1-one (perinaphthenone)(I) [548-39-0] was isolated and characterized from the water sol. fraction of a No. 2 fuel oil. I had 2 very different effects on the growth of microalgae. With blue-green algae there was an abrupt toxicity, independent of light wavelength, at 5 ppm. With 2 green algae toxicity was strongly light wavelength-dependent. In white light (Daylight fluorescence) 250 ppb was lethal; with this same lamp screened by a sharp-cut yellow filter (530 nm), growth rate was not affected until the concn. reached 10 ppm. The growth inhibition of a diatom by I was also light wavelength-dependent, but the concn. required was some twentyfold that for green algae. .
