DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 36 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) The properties of 18 reactive diluents are given, and the effects of these diluents on the viscosity of bisphenol A diglycidyl ether polymer (I) [25085-99-8] and on the properties of I hardened with hexahydrophthalic anhydride [85-42-7] are described. Of the 18 diluents, allyl glycidyl ether (II) [106-92-3] and Bu glycidyl ether [2426-08-6] gave the greatest decrease in the viscosity of I. Of 12 diepoxide diluents, vinylcyclohexene dioxide [106-87-6] and dipentene dioxide [96-08-2] gave the greatest decrease in the viscosity of I. Among five diglycidyl esters, glycidyl hexahydrophthalate [5493-45-8] gave the greatest decrease in viscosity of I. The effects of the diluents on the properties of the hardened I varied, and the choice of a diluent depended mainly on the intended use of the hardened I. II, Ph glycidyl ether [122-60-1], furfuryl glycidyl ether [5380-87-0], and N,N-diglycidylaniline [2095-06-9] were irritating to skin and/or eyes, but diglycidyl phthalate [7195-45-1] and hexahydrophthalate caused little irritation.
