As an example, 0.1 g powder was extd. with 70% EtOH (10 mL), and 1 mL of the ext. was dild. with MeOH with addn. of internal std. A 0.6-mL soln. was subjected to anal. by HPLC. The retention time was 7.94, 12.97, 14.29, 20.09 and 53.76 min, resp. Contents of various isoflavones in roots of P. lobata from various locations in China ranged 0.0155-2.002, 0.108-5.749, 0.2411-1.908, 0.0175-1.393 and 0.049-0.155%, resp. No pretreatment of crude samples was required. The method was simple and rapid and only a small amt. of samples was required in anal.
