DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Photolysis of liq. 2-furaldehyde yielded an orange resin [25067-38-3] with no. av. mol. wt. 500 .+-. 50 (by vapor-pressure osmometry). The polymn. probably proceeded by an initiation step promoted by electronically excited mols. reacting with ground-state mols. to give vibrationally excited dimers, a propagation step consisting of the addn. of monomer to hot dimer (trimer, etc.), and termination which occurred when the oligomer lost the threshold energy required to induce its reaction with addnl. monomer. Byproducts isolated included furoin [552-86-3] (.apprx.3% based on resin) and furan [110-00-9] (trace amts.). .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Synthetic High Polymers) Hydroxamate anions bound to poly(2-ethyl-1-vinylimidazole) [25086-88-8] quaternized with Me(CH2)11Br and EtBr catalyzed proton abstraction from benzoin [119-53-9] and furoin [552-86-3]. Proton removal from benzoin by N-methylmyristohydroxamate anion in the presence of polymer was 2.1 .times. 104 times faster than the corresponding reaction in the absence of polymer, and 330 times faster than that by OH-. The max. catalytic efficiency occurred at .apprx.30 mol % lauryl group content. Addn. of KCl and EtOH suppressed the reaction. The hydroxamate-polymer complex could be used for a variety of base-catalyzed reactions in which the carbanion formation is involved in the rate-detg. step. 56866-26-3 is the cas registry number of certain chemical which is used as reagents here. .
