DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 40 (Textiles) Section cross-reference(s): 41 The shade of polycaprolactam (I) fibers bulk-dyed with a N,N'-dimethylperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide [5521-31-3]-I pigment changes from one brand or batch of pigment to another, due to the presence of byproducts, esp. perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid (II) [81-32-3] and perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (III) [81-33-4]. The shade also changes in time, due to oxidn. of leuco-III formed in I melt. The evenness of shade can be improved by reducing the content of III or by decreasing the reducing capacity of I by blocking its end groups with adipic acid [124-04-9]. The pigment contg. mostly II is superior to that contg. mostly III with respect to the color of goods because II blocks I and increases the purity of shade.
