DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Studies were conducted on the seed infusion technique using acetone [67-64-1] as a carrier for fungicides in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). Eight fungicides, i.e., carbendazim [10605-21-7], carbendazim-thiram mixt. [63288-44-8], triadimenol [55219-65-3], thiophanate methyl [23564-05-8], chlorothalonil [1897-45-6], thiram [137-26-8], captan [133-06-2], and captafol [2425-06-1], at recommended rates were used. The fungicidal combination of carbendazem + thiram (1:1) at 0.3% eradicated seed-borne fungal pathogens Rhizoctonia bataticola, Alternaria alternata, and Fusarium equiseti. The seed infusion technique was significantly superior over slurry method. However, damaged seed should not be treated following these methods because of toxicity to the seed. Fungicidal seed treatment through infusion method and subsequent rhizobial inoculation gave significantly higher germination and nodulation count as well as fresh wt. in cowpea. However triadimenol and chlorothalonil were toxic at the doses used.
