Eleven of them were identified as cis-heptadeca-1,8-diene-4,6-diyne-3,10-diol [63910-76-9]; trans-heptadeca-1,8-diene-4,6-diyne-3,10-diol [63910-76-9]; falcarindiol [55297-87-5] falcarinolone [18089-23-1], cis-10-acetoxyheptadeca-1,8-diene-4,6-diyn-3-ol [63910-77-0]; trans-10-acetoxyheptadeca-1,8-diene-4,6-diyn-3-ol [63910-77-0]; cis-heptadeca-1,9-diene-4,6-diyn-3-ol-8-one [63767-81-7]; 2-cis-9-cis-heptadeca-diene-4,6-diyn-1-ol [63767-82-8]; falcarinone [4117-11-7]; falcarinol [21852-80-2] and 2-cis-9-cis-heptadecadiene-4,6-diyn-1-al [63767-83-9] by UV-, IR-, mass and NMR spectrog., and thin-layer chromatog. The air-dried and chopped underground parts of A. podagraria were extd. with 1:1 petroleum ether/Et2O under N2 atm. at room temp. The ext. was fractionated by pressurized liq. chromatog. using a hexane/Et2O mixt. eluant. Two components were only partially identified.

High Color 9, Long Imperator 58, Danvers 126, and Spartan Bonus varieties were grown in Wisconsin (1979-1982), Florida (1980-1982), California (1980-1982), Arizona (1981), and Illinois (1981-1982). 607-91-0 and 21852-80-2 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. Gold Pak, Nantes Half Long, Red Cored Chantenay, and Royal Chantenay varieties were grown in Illinois (1980). The overall mean of falcarinol for 510 observations of these 8 com. varieties was 24.1 mg/kg; that of falcarindiol for 389 observations was 65.1 mg/kg. The std. error of a mean based on 2 samples of 4 carrots, with 2 aliquots per sample, was 2.8 for falcarinol and 4.8 for falcarindiol. Varietal means ranged from 11.3 to 28.2 for falcarinol and 53.3 to 106.9 for falcarindiol. Myristicin was detected in only 1 variety of carrots (Spartan Bonus) harvested in Wisconsin in 1981; the mean of 12 observations, 2 samples, was 1.4 mg/kg with a range of 1.3 to 1.5 mg/kg. .
