DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 35 (Chemistry of Synthetic High Polymers) The oligomerization of Me methacrylate (I) by Na methacrylate [5536-61-8] in MeOH [67-56-1] gave products with d.p.Several reagents with their cas registry numbers 67-56-1 and 9003-21-8 are used here. 2-10 and a small amt. of cyclic trimer. Increasing the concn. of I at a const. I-MeOH ratio had little effect on the final compn., but broadened the oligomer distribution and increased the rate of the reaction, which was apparently slow. Distg. oligomers with d.p 1-3 left fractions with av. d.p. 4-6 and polydispersity ~1.1. A similar oligomerization of Me acrylate gave a product contg. ~75% satd. oligomers with d.p. 2-8, the rest being unsatd. or irregular satd. products. Changing the reaction conditions had little effect on byproduct formation. .
