- Effect of some additives on the combustion of fuel oil
- Effect of some additives on the combustion of fuel oil. Tartarelli, R.; Davini, P. (Fac. Ing., Univ. Pisa, Pisa, Italy). Energia (Madrid), 9(6), 93-6 (Spanish) 1983. CODEN: ENMAEV. ISSN: 0210-2056. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) Section cross-reference(s): 59 The following three fuel oil additives were compared with respect to their effect on the SO3 and NOx content of the smoke and the characteristics of the soot from fuel oil combustion in a steam generator: A (an org. amine), B (A plus powd. MgO, contg. 20% Mg), and C (a dispersion of MgO, Mg(OAc)2 [142-72-3], and Mg stearate [557-04-0], contg. 34% Mg, in diesel oil). There was very little difference between the performances of B and C. Both reduced the acidity (i.e., increased pH). The simultaneous presence of an org. part (amine base) and MgO permits redn. of the SO3 content of the smoke and the acidity of the soot by an amt. similar to that of an additive based on MgO contg. 370% MgO. The result can be attributed to the org. part, which acts more effectively than MgO to inhibit SO3 formation in the flame. The presence of MgO in the additive partly reduced the NOx content of the smoke.
- Crosslinking of polyolefins with silanes
- Crosslinking of polyolefins with silanes. (Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd., Japan). Jpn. Kokai Tokkyo Koho JP 58093704 A2 3 Jun 1983 Showa, 4 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JKXXAF. CLASS: IC: C08F008-42. APPLICATION: JP 81-193304 30 Nov 1981. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 37 (Plastics Manufacture and Processing) Silane-modified polyolefins are prepd. by mixing silanes, radical initiators, and powd. additives for polyolefins and extruding the mixts. with polyolefins. Thus, a mixt. of ethenyltrimethoxysilane [2768-02-7] 0.8, Bz2O2 0.1, and Mg stearate (I) [557-04-0] 3.0 parts was stirred with 100 parts polyethylene [9002-88-4] pellets and extruded at 180-200°. The above compn. was extruded again with 0.1 part dibutyltin dilaurate and 0.1 part antioxidant to give a 2-mm sheet. The sheet was immersed 4 h in H2O to give a crosslinked sheet having gel content 71% and tensile strength 60 kg/cm2, compared with 53 and 22, resp., for a similar sheet without I.
