The activity was optimal 90 min after injection, and 0.04 mg of lysosomal protein induced inflammation. The antiinflammatory activity of betamethasone 17,21-dipropionate (I) [5593-20-4] against lysosome-induced inflammation was greater than that of cortisol acetate [50-03-3].

DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 63 (Pharmaceuticals) An improved ointment vehicle for the administration of steroids, esp. betamethasone esters, comprises 5-15% glycol solvent, such as propylene glycol (I) [57-55-6], 1-3% propylene glycol monostearate (II) [1323-39-3] as primary emulsifer and 0-7% white or yellow wax as secondary emulsifier in a 70-90% petrolatum base. The oleaginous water insol. base showed improved washability, reduced greasiness and enhanced dermal absorption of the incorporated steroid drugs. For example, an ointment contained betamethasone 17,21-dipropionate [5593-20-4] 0.64, II 20.00, I 100.00, white wax 60.00 and white petrolatum 816.36 mg/g. The ingredients were dissolved one by one in I at 50° and homogenized at 65-70°. The product was placed in tubes and was used in treatment of patients with chronic psoriasis. More effective results were obtained than with conventional ointments.
