Anomalous response of a calcium ion electrode in natural waters
Anomalous response of a calcium ion electrode in natural waters. Diagnostic studies with synthetic chelating agents. Victor, D. M.; Martin, Dean F. (Dep. Chem., Univ. South Florida, Tampa, Fla., USA). J. Environ. Sci. Health, Part A, A12(7), 367-74 (English) 1977. CODEN: JESEDU. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 79 Several chelating agents, both natural and synthetic, were selected for a study on their effects on the growth of Hydrilla verticillata. These were: Na2EDTA×2H2O [139-33-3]; ethylenediamino-N,N'-diacetic acid [5657-17-0]; Na2trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexanetetraacetic acid [57137-35-6]; ethyleneglycolbis(aminoethyl)tetraacetic acid (I) [7440-70-2]; and the natural chelating agents found in Lake Starvation of Hillsborough County, Florida. These chelating agents, in well-water solns., were incubated with Hydrilla. Dissolved O and C (inorg. and org.) were measured and were related to Hydrilla growth. Values of Ca present were measured by at. absorption spectrophotometry and by a Ca ion electrode. Only I solns. showed abnormal behavior. This is due to exceptional stability of Ca-I complexes and the effect on the response of the electrode.
