Control of winged and slender winged thistles
Control of winged and slender winged thistles. Taylor, R. L. (Fruitgrowers Chem. Co. Ltd., Nelson, N. Z.). Proc. N. Z. Weed Pest Control Conf., 30, 38-41 (English) 1977. CODEN: PZWPAL. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemicals) Among 5 herbicides evaluated for control of slender winged thistles (Carduus pycnocephalus) and winged thistles (C. tenniflorus) K MCPA (I potassium salt) [5221-16-9] at 0.5 kg/ha gave the best results and the least damage to subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum). Slender winged thistle was more difficult to control than winged thistle. Both Na MCPB [6062-26-6] and 2,4-D diethanolamine salt [5742-19-8] controlled small thistles but damaged subterranean clover much more.
2,4-D amine antagonism by salts
2,4-D amine antagonism by salts. Nalewaja, John D.; Woznica, Zenon; Matysiak, Robert (Crop and Weed Sci. Dep., N D State Univ., Fargo, ND 58105, USA). Weed Technol., 5(4), 873-80 (English) 1991. CODEN: WETEE9.There are some reagents with their cas registry numbers 5742-19-8 and 7681-38-1 are used in this study. ISSN: 0890-037X. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 5 (Agrochemical Bioregulators) Research was conducted to det. the influence of salts on 2,4-D toxicity to kochia. Calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and iron salts except for sulfate and phosphate salts of calcium and sodium were antagonistic to 2,4-D diethanolamine. None of the ammonium salts antagonized 2,4-D control of kochia. Effects of individual ions generally antagonistic to 2,4-D were additive when in mixt. 2,4-D generally controlled kochia better when mixed with various acids than with their ammonium salts in distd., sodium bicarbonate, or ferric sulfate water carriers, relating to the lower pH with the acids. However, low pH was not essential in overcoming salt antagonism of 2,4-D for kochia control, nor was 2,4-D always effective with low pH. Sulfate and monobasic phosphate anions were most effective in overcoming sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride antagonism of 2,4-D. The concn. of diammonium sulfate needed to overcome sodium bicarbonate antagonism of 2,4-D increased with sodium bicarbonate concn. Diammonium sulfate at 2% (w/v) overcame 1200 mg L-1 sodium as sodium bicarbonate. Nonionic surfactants and oil adjuvants also overcame antagonism of 2,4-D caused by water from several sources. .
